The number of penalty points given for speeding offences may be raised in the New Year.
It’s just one of the measures being looked at by the Department of Transport.
New offences will be brought into the mix, including a tightening up of seat belt laws to cover children travelling in commercial vehicles, points for driving a car with a faulty light and for having a dirty windscreen.
According to a reports today, the Transport Minister Leo Varadkar also has plans to increase the penalty points that motorists get for some common offences.
Director of Policy at the AA, Conor Faughnan, says people may be surprised that certain things weren’t already penalty point offences
