New plans for Two Mile Inn overturned by appeals board.

Plans to convert a now closed South East Clare hotel into a nursing home have been rejected by An Bord Pleanala.

The Two Mile Inn which was an iconic landmark on the Ennis Road in Meelick closed over two years ago- the victim of the economic downturn coupled with an oversupply of hotels in the region.

In 2011a planning application to convert it into a state of the art convalescent nursing home was given a conditional approval from Clare County Council – however this was subject an appeal to An Bord Pleanala.

Rejecting the application by the Cork-based firm O’Mordhu construction, inspectors found that permission would cause or contribute to unauthorised development on lands within or adjoining the appealed site.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor Cathal Crowe has expressed bitter disappointment over the decision has he feels it would have provided a much needed economic boost for the area.
