It’s a day of fun and frolics in Gort today as the town’s long awaited playground offically opens to the public.
The facility has been over seven years in the planning with numerous sites deemed unsuitable until with the aid of the local community college and the county council the organisers secured a site with a long term lease across the road from the Lady Gregory Hotel.

The playground has over 25 different pieces of equipment to cater for toddlers, young children right up to gym equipment for adults.
Director of Gort Community Playground Martin Aherne says while most of the work has been done they are still fundraising for ongoing maintence and further development!
