The government says efforts to provide more suitable care for dementia patients in Clare will have to be done on a cost-neutral basis, despite acknowledging issues with the current service.
A purpose-built dementia unit at St. Joseph's Hospital in Ennis is not operational, with care currently being provided at Ennis General, where staff are under what's described as 'enourmous strain.'

The HSE has acknowledged that a more apporpriate solution is requred, and says it has taken action.
However, speaking on behalf of the government, Junior Minister Sean Sherlock has said there are no plans for extra money to be spent here.
