Over half of all household septic tanks inspected under a new national regime have failed to meet the minimum guidelines.
However, no Clare homeowner has been told to carry out works on their wastewater treatment systems because inspections have yet to begin here.

Less than half of the 420 systems scrutinised to the end of February have been given the all clear, but the EPA says many of the failures could have been avoided with maintenance.
55 inspections are to be carried out in Clare by July, and Clare County Council has confirmed to the Authority that this target will be met.
