Noonan rejects coaltion problems over bank debt deal

A second Labour party Senator has warned the stability of the government would be threatened by failure to reach a deal on Ireland’s bank debt.

Senator John Whelan says the government would no longer be able to strike a balance of fairness, without a deal on the Anglo promissory notes.

At the weekend his Labour colleague Senator John Gilroy said there should be a general election if a deal isn’t struck.

However Finance Minister Michael Noonan insists the government’s happy with the progress being made and the stability of the coalition is a separate issue
