NRA Satisfied With M18 Works

The National Roads Authority says it's satisfied with the standard of the M18 motorway in light of emergency repair works carried out on the road.

However, NRA officials won't appear before a meeting of Clare County Council to address the concerns of local representatives.

Contractors on behalf of the NRA carried out emergency works on three sections of the northbound carraigeway of the M18 motorway between Crusheen and Gort in October of last year, and then again later that month when fresh issues emerged.

In a letter to Clare County Councillors, seen by Clare FM, the NRA says these works aimed to address issues with drainage, and that the road is now being monitored.

They're satisfied that an appropriate balance between good drainage and driver comfort has been achieved to date.

A number of Councillors had expressed concerns about the standard of the road, and as well as seeking a report on the works, they had sought for an NRA official attend a Council meeting and brief them on the matter.

The Authority says this isn't possible because of what it describes as "staff resource constraints."
