Numbers on hospital waiting lists hits 10 year high

The number of local residents on hospital waiting lists has reached it’s highest level in almost ten years.

New CSO figures show that 8 per cent of people in the midwest were awaiting some form of treatment last year, up from 5 per cent in 2007 and 6 per cent in 2001.

The survey also shows that 18% of people here are not covered by a medical card or private health insurance, though this figure is lower than the national average, while the number of people here who classify their own health as ‘fair’ or ‘very bad’ is up 20% in the last three years.
