Nurses At Region’s Maternity Hosptial To Protest This Lunchtime Over Staffing Levels

Nurses at the region's maternity hospital are taking part in a protest this lunchtime in a call for safe care.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation will take to the streets at 1pm over what they say has been a significant rise in activity and complexity of mothers presenting at the hospital.

They've also told the HSE that there are totally inadequate midwifery staffing levels; as well as lack of staff in the labour ward at night and unsafe levels in the ED.

UL Hospitals Group is rejecting any suggestion that services at the Mid-West hospital are unsafe for mothers and their babies and say every effort is being made to deal with staff deficits.

The HSE is looking to recruit up to 25 midwives, but the INMO fears this won't address the problems at the MidWest's maternity hospital.
