Nurses call for Disaster Plan in Limerick

The Health Minister has been told that Limerick Regional Hospital is under its worst pressure ever today, despite his promise to tackle overcrowding through the special delivery unit.

Nurses in the Mid-West say James Reilly’s plans aren’t working in Limerick with 34 patients on trollies there today along with a further 62 patients on temporary wards, while 10 beds are closed due to a winter vomiting bug outbreak.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives organisation has called for the HSE’s major disaster plan to be implemented whereby available GPs in Clare and Limerick would be drafted in to alleviate the situation, but there’s been no response to their public plea.
