Nurses At UHL Ballot For Industrial Action Over Staff Shortages

Nurses at the region’s main hospital are to ballot for industrial action.

It comes amid ongoing frustration over what the INMO has described as “persistent” high nurse vacancy rates at University Hospital Limerick.

Among nurses’ concerns are the risks to patients, overcrowding in a COVID-19 environment and excessive workloads arising due to unfilled funded nursing posts in wards, emergency department and theatres.

The INMO’s Midwest Representative Mary Fogarty has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that it’s vital that the vacancies are filled before the opening of 96 additional beds on site.
