Nurses at the region’s main hospital are warning current levels of overcrowding there are ‘unsustainable’.
It follows 69 patients waiting for a bed at University Hospital Limerick yesterday morning, while the 413 people on trolleys nationally was the highest figure since the pandemic began.
It’s prompted the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation to make fresh pleas to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly to undergo an urgent clinical review at UHL.
In a statement to Clare FM, the UL Hospitals Group says its emergency department remains ‘exceptionally busy’ and that they are continuing to follow their escalation plan for such instances.
INMO Midwest Representative Mary Fogarty claims the situation at the facility is ‘deteriorating’ over what’s expected to be a busy winter.
