Nursing Staff Issue UHL Warning

Nursing staff at University Hospital Limerick have called for the implementation of the Major Emergency Plan there, in light of what they say is a catastrophic situation.

Yesterday morning, the INMO recorded 47 patients on trolleys in the hospital's Emergency Department, and say there were no beds available.

They've called on the government to release €2 million in funding, to allow for an additional 30 beds to be opened ahead of the winter.

In response to the nurse's concerns, the HSE has released a statement saying all additional beds have been opened, and that additional staffing has been made available.

The public are reminded to keep the Emergency Department for emergencies only and to contact their GPs in the first instance.
