O’Higgins Report Finds Roche Kelly “Deserved Better”

The final report of the O'Higgins Commission has found that the husband of a murdered Sixmilebridge woman was left in the dark as he persued information relating to the man that killed her.

The Commission was set up to investigate complaints of Garda malpractice by Sgt. Maurice McCabe and deals with the case of Jerry McGrath, the man who murdered Sylvia Roche Kelly while he was on bail for other serious offences.

Meanwhile, former Justice Minister Alan Shatter has welcomed the findings of the O'Higgins Commission's report.

It found that Alan Shatter did take the claims of whistleblower, Sergeant Maurice McCabe "very seriously" during his time as a government Minister.

Mr Shatter said he would be writing to the Taoiseach to have the findings of the Guerin report, removed from the record of the Dail.

The O'Higgins report also found there was not a scintilla of evidence to support a claim of corruption against former Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan
