The HSE has been forced to reimburse a Clare woman after it refused treatement costs for an eating disorder.
The Clare medical card holder was attending a private clinic for Bulimia, but had the necessary funding withdrawn by the Health Service Executive, prompting her to complain to the Ombudsman.
Following the intervention of Emily O’Reilly office, the HSE reimbursed the Clare woman the full cost of her treatment.
The ombudsman’s report for 2009 has highlighted complaints about the HSE, described as shocking and deplorable, and Emily O’Reilly said the health service seems to operate in a parallel universe with "something rotten" within the system.
