With 132 born outside of wedlock, this means almost 40% of children in Clare in that period were born to unmarried parents.

Just four of the Clare babies born in the second quarter were born to teenage mothers, while the 35-39 age bracket remains the most popular time in a Clare woman’s life to give birth.

At the other end of the scale, 186 people died in Clare in that time, with cancer accounting for 68 of those.

Circulatory and respiratory illnesses were the causes of 38 and 32 deaths here respectively, while dementia claimed seven lives and Alzheimer’s was recorded as the reason behind two deaths.
