One Step Forward, Two Back In Tackling Homelessness In Clare

Midwest Simon says it’s a case of one step forward and two back when it comes to tackling the numbers entering homelessness in Clare.

It comes as new figures from the Department of Housing shows the rate of homelessness in this county has dropped only marginally, with 65 people seeking housing assistance in May, down one on the previous month.

The Clare Homeless Action Team assisted eight households in exiting homeless services between April of 22nd and May 25th, while eight people moved from hotel accommodation to supported shared living through Midwest Simon’s new Clann Nua project.

CEO of Midwest Simon, Jackie Bonfield has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that while progress is being made in moving people out of emergency accommodation, the numbers accessing services are still climbing.
