Open Verdict Recorded Into Deaths Of Women In Miltown Malbay

An open verdict has been recorded at an inquest into the deaths of two English business women whose bodies were discovered at Whitestrand, Miltown Malbay last March.

On March 18th gardai in Miltown Malbay were informed of the shocking discovery of two bodies at Whitestrand  – they also found a green Citroen car parked nearby with a dog inside.

Investigations revealed the deceased women were 57 year old Pamela Moore and her 55 year old sister Denise who lived in Cork for many years before moving to Wales and later returning to Waterford in 2010 having run a boutique and a florist shop together over the years.

The two women’s younger sister – Yvonne Martin from Dorset, England was present at the Clare Coroners Court in Ennis as  the Deputy State Pathologist delivered the finding of the post mortems he carried out at Limerick Regional Hospital

Dr Michael Curtis said he found a wound to the left wrist of Denise Moore which he said was "consistent with a self inflicted wound" though he found no evidence of injury on the body of Pamela Moore and concluded that both women died from drowning.

Offering sympathy to relatives of the deceased, County Coroner Isobel O’Dea said there was no suspicion of foul play but returned an open verdict due to a lack of evidence between the last known sighting of the Moore sisters near Liscannor on St Patricks evening, and the discovery of their bodies near Miltown Malbay the following morning.
