The opening date for the new Emergency Department at University Hospital Limerick has been pushed back until May 2017.
UL Hospitals Group has confirmed the new date at a meeting of the HSE's Regional Health Forum West, despite maintaining up until now that the ED would be up and running in the first quarter of next year.
In a statement to Clare FM, CEO Colette Cowan says contractors are on track to hand over the project at the end of March, however, it will take a number of weeks for the new department to be equipped for opening.
Sixmilebridge Councillor PJ Ryan, who is a member of the HSE's Regional Health Forum West, says further delays aren't aceptable, but he remains hopeful that the new department will be open in May.
