Over 670 Aer Lingus jobs being axed

 

Aer Lingus has announced drastic cost cutting plans which will see 676 staff members in Shannon Cork and Dublin facing the dole queue.

The former state carrier says 489 jobs will go in operational and support areas while 187 will be slashed at head office.

The airline also wants to slash wages and end the current defined benefit pensions scheme and it’s looking at

The company says while it hopes redundancies can be achieved on a voluntary basis, compulsory redundancies may be necessary.

The former national carrier has already cut their transatlantic services from Shannon in recent months and has kept the Shannon to New York route under review.
