Two people -a man and a woman- have been airlifted to safety by the Shannon-based Search and Rescue helicopter having spent the night on a river-island in Co. Kerry.
The pair, who had been kayaking on the river at Gearhameen (PRO;GEAR-HA-MEEN) in Killarney's Black Valley, become stranded on an island when they lost their paddles yesterday evening at around 7:30.
Valentia Coastguard were contacted at approximately 9 o'clock last night – but due to dangerous weather conditions – they were unable to deploy a chopper.
However, Killarney Lake Rescue were able to deploy a tent and overnight supplies to the pair who spent the night on the island, before they were rescued this morning.
It's understood they are safe and well.
