Clare County Councillors were paid a combined 1.375 million euro in 2009.
Figures released today show the average anunal payment to members of Clare County Council in 2008 and 2009 was just over 36,000 euro.
Former Mayor of Clare Tony Mulcahy received the largest payment last year – almost 46 thousand euro – while three other councillors and former members each received over 40 thousand euro in the same period.
They are former Mayor Madeline Taylor Quinn, Lissycasey Councillor PJ Kelly and Richard Nagle from Ennistymon.
Figures in today’s Irish Independent show payments rose by over 140 thousand on the previous year, though last year’s figure does include a sum of 220 thousand euro which was given to five unspecified councillors after theye retired or lost their seats.
