Efforts to boost the retail and restaurant trade in Ennis will step up a gear with long term moves in the coming weeks.
The main streets of Ennis Town Centre will be car free on Saturdays from May 29th, for Fleadh Nua Celebrations, with pedestrianisation to continue every Saturday for the next 6 months after that.
Ennis Councillors are hoping the move will boost shopping and the cafe culture of the town, though they’ve agreed to keep O’Connell Street and Abbey Street car free only between 12 and 6 each Saturday to facilitate local businesses.
Despite concerns from some traders, Independent Councillor Tommy Brennan thinks it’s a good arrangement for all concerned
