An elderly woman has died after a fire at a nursing home in South East Clare.
A 21 year old man and a garda were also injured in the blaze which broke out in an first floor bedroom of the Lakes Nursing Home in Killaloe overnight.
The alarm was raised at around 1 o’clock and up to six units of the fire brigade were initially called to the scene to tackle the blaze.
There were 48 patients and three staff in the nursing home at the time and one 95 year old resident died from natural causes as the first floor of the premises was evacuated.
A 21 year old man was also injured while a garda suffered smoke inhalation and both were taken to Limerick University Hospital.
The blaze was brought under control shortly before four and residents returned to their rooms.
The area is sealed off this morning pending a full technical examination as investigators try to establish the cause of the fire
