As the Christmas festivities continue Clare householders are being asked to be mindful to switch off Christmas tree lights and candles in plenty of time before turning in for the night.
Last year, Clare’s fire service responded to 90 calls from the public during the christmas season, the majority of these incidents related to car accidents, chimney fires and house fires caused by candles and christmas lights.
Chief Fire Officer for Co. Clare, Adrian Kelly has advised people to ensure that trees have strong bases, to be mindful that real trees dry out and become greater fire risks and not to keep trees near an open flame.
