Hopes are being raised that a large number of the 370 redundancies announced at the
Element Six plant in Shannon last week could now be saved.
Senior Executives at the commercial diamond plant have secured support from the
parent company to develop a plan to sustain operations in Shannon in the long term.
A statement from management says the plan would be an alternative to the wind down
to the company’s operations announced last week.
The General Manager at Shannon, Ken Sullivan, says he is convinced that a
sustainable operation can be created.
Earlier Tanaiste Mary Couglin met with Element Six workers and managment in Bunratty to hear their concerns and an update on efforts to salvage as many jobs as possible at the Shannon plant.
