Plan to tackle Doughmore Coastal Erosion gets green light

Plans for a two million coastal protection plan to prevent erosion of the sand dunes at Doonbeg Golf Club have been given the green light.

The club had warned that a one in fifty year storm may lead to a retreat in the dune line of over 30 foot and that if something wasn’t done to stop it, it would be detrimental to the viability of the club.

A previous 2003 proposal was turned down by An Bord Pleanála due to the scale of the proposal.

In its ruling on the revised proposal, the council granted planning permission for the works, stating the plan would not seriously injure the amenities of the area or of property in the vicinity.
