Clare County Council says its Planning Department dealt with a 7% increase in applications last year.

The figure for 2018 is the highest recorded by the Council in recent years, as Clare FM’s James Mulhall reports

The local authority here in Clare received a total of 1,076 planning applications last year.

That’s an increase of 70, or 7% when compared with the year before, and the highest figure recorded since 2010.

It’s still a long way short of the peak of the Celtic Tiger era, however, when Clare County Council was receiving around 3,000 planning applications a year.

The figure covers a range of application types, including one-off housing, commercial developments and planning retention, but this growth is a positive indicator for the local construction sector.

Last year also saw a total of 285 pre-planning applications.
