Clare County Council has given the green light for a major expansion of the Beckman Coulter facility in O'Callaghan's Mills, which is expected to create up to 100 new jobs.

Two separate extensions have been proposed to allow for the production of a new urine test strip, which will be used to detect abnormailities that indicate illnesses such as bladder cancer or diabetes.

The company currently employs 355 people – a number of those were transferred here following the closure of it's Galway facility in 2014, after the decision was taken not to wind down it's Clare facility.
