Voting Underway In Clare In Election 2019

Voting is underway in the European and Local Elections, and the referendum on divorce.

Over 93,000 people throughout Clare are entitled to at least one vote today, with polling stations throughout the county open until 10 p.m. tonight.

Here, 28 Councillors will be elected, and Clare voters will also choose from the 23 candidates in the Ireland South on a 2ft long ballot paper.

Clare county registrar Pat Wallace says they’ve had to make special provision for the counting staff to help them deal with it.

Meanwhile, the Referendum Commission is urging voters in Clare to ensure that their voice is heard in the divorce referendum today.

The electorate is being asked whether or not they would like to see the legal separation period for a divorce reduced from four to two years.
