Poor And Elderly More Likely To Receive Late Cancer Diagnosis

A new study on treatment and survival rates for cancer has found that older people, and those living in poorer areas, are more likely to get a later diagnosis.

The report by the National Cancer Registry shows that whether a person gets and survives cancer will depend largely on their age, wealth and where they live.

The study showed that cancer rates are 38 per cent higher in some urban areas, when compared to rural parts of the country.

Director of the National Cancer Registry Dr Harry Comber, says someone's age and economic background have an impact on detection rates of the disease.
