In Ennis, meanwhile, drivers are warned of a fault with traffic lights at Captain Mac’s cross, near St. Flannan’s College.

Council personnel are on site, trying to identify and repair the problem but motorists there are asked to proceed with caution.

Elsewhere, around 7 thousand homes are without power across the south of the country after lightning strikes.

ESB is reporting 250 faults to power lines on the network from Kerry across to Wicklow, including Bandon in Cork and Kilkenny city.

Meanwhile, Irish Ferries swift sailings have been cancelled over the next two days because of stormy conditions.
