Campaigners for the Western Rail Corridor are hoping the success of the new Ennis to Galway train line will pave the way for a new station in Crusheen and the re-opening of the entire line to Sligo.
Iarnroid Eireann have confirmed the popularity of the new line from Limerick to Galway in its first week of service, while the West on Track campaign group says early passenger numbers are a positive sign for the future.
Critics of the new rail service say it’s a loss making, time consuming journey despite broad welcome for the new link between the cities of Limerick and Galway .
