Possible strike action at Element Six

Workers at Element Six in Shannon are set to be balloted over the coming days on possible industrial action.

Unions held a meeting with staff this morning at the plant to discuss the revised redundancy deal being offered to workers at the former De Beers plant.

Last Friday management announced the parent company had given their backing to a new sustainability plan which will retain an extra 163 jobs at the site.

However, workers are angry over the revised redundancy deal that is on offer which is significantly less than the package that was on offer earlier this year.
 

In a joint statement by the two unions after today’s talks SIPTU and the TEEU are warning strike action is very likely if management doesn’t adhere to existing agreements with workers.
