Postal services in Shannon Sixmilebridge and Newmarket on Fergus are changing from today.
19 staff members based at the three offices have been transferred to a purpose fitted building at the Smithtown Industrial Estate in Shannon
An Post says its designed to improve mail services through the consolidation of staff and resources and that there will be no impact on Post Offices in East Clare.

However concerns been expressed by local businesspeople who say changes to parcel mail pick-ups will adversely affect them and believe its just a downgrade of the local post office
Newmarket on Fergus councillor Pat McMahon fears it may lead to further downgrades and a less personal service
