It’s believed passenger numbers through Shannon Airport will be boosted significantly by 2012 through the US pre clearance facilities
The first flight took off this morning and allows passengers to clear US immigration and customs inspections in the Mid West before boarding their flights to the states.
The agreement was announced by the US and Irish Governments last November and sees Shannon become the first European airport with pre-clearance for the US.
It’s hoped the service will being in significant business from the rest of Europe and the Middle East, along with a hike in corporate jet traffic.
Pat Shanahan of the Shannon Airport Authority says that they are already working hard to market the service.
