Preparations Underway Ahead Of Arrival Of Refugees

President Obama has directed his administration to prepare to take in at least 10-thousand Syrian refugees over the next year.

Since the start of the Syrian civil war in 2011, the United States has taken in 15-hundred refugees, with 300 more expected to be cleared by October.

Meanwhile, officials on the Greek island of Lesbos say up to 4-thousand people are arriving there every day – and they're struggling to cope.

Volunteer Ariana Faris says there's not much to offer.

Meanwhile,

Preparations are underway to welcome 4,000 refugees to Ireland in the coming weeks and months.

So far thousands of people have offered beds and other forms of housing in a variety of campaigns through charities and social media groups.

The Irish Red Cross has been tasked with co-ordinating the effort and is urging anyone who would like to offer accommodation places for refugees to get in contact with them directly.

They've set up a dedicated phone-line: 01 6424 600 and email: MigrationCrisis@redcross.ie

It comes as Police on the Greek Island of Lesbos last night said over 22,000 refugees have been registered there this week alone.
