President Higgins shares memories at Clare visit

The family of President Michael D Higgins have expressed immense pride is his achievements following his official homecoming to County Clare.

As well as his Civic Reception at Clare County Council, the President visited Scariff last evening as part of his first official visit to the county he was reared in.

He also met with old school friends and his family members who live in Ballycar, Newmarket on Fergus and Shannon.

In an interview to be broadcast on Clare FM’s Morning Focus, President Higgin’s brother John and Sister Kathleen described the visit as a proud day for their family.

Meanwhile,

President Higgins will continue to celebrate his Clare links today, when students from his old national school visit Aras an Uachtaran.

Ballycar National School pupils travel to Dublin, where they will formerly be welcomed to the Phoenix Park by the President.

Yesterday he took time to meet with old friends from his school days in St. Flannan’s College in Ennis yesterday as he was honoured by Clare County Council.

And he confirmed that he was known in those days by the nickname "Snowball" due to the colour – and length – of his hair!!
