A visit by the wife of President Michael D Higgins to an anti-war campaigner who’s been jailed for tresspassing at Shannon Airport has been described as "personal and private".
Aras an Uachtaran has confirmed that Sabina Higgins visited Galway woman Margaretta D’Arcy at Limerick Prison on Sunday.

The 79 year old Parkinson’s Disease sufferer was jailed last week after she refused to sign a bond to stay away from unauthorised areas of Shannon airport following an illegal incursion on the runway in October 2012.
A spokesperson for Aras an Uachtaran says the visit was a personal one as two women have known each other for many years.
