President Of New York Clare Association Recalls Being First Responder During 9/11

The President of the New York Clare Association says that being a first responder during 9/11 was her obligation.

It comes as the world marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks in America, when members of the Al-Qaeda group instructed by Osama bin Laden, hijacked four planes on the 11th of September, 2001.

2,977 people lost their lives during the attacks which led to the collapse of both World Trade Centre towers in New York, the partial collapse of the West side of the Pentagon Building and the fourth plane crashing and killing all on board in a field in Pennsylvania.

Maureen O’Neill Regan, President of the New York Clare Association, spent a year after 9/11 as part of the rescue and recovery team at Ground Zero and says the energy of the rescue workers was unbelievable.

Air-traffic control officer at Shannon Airport on that day, Aidan McEnroe, says he and his team were tasked with bringing back aircraft half-way across the Atlantic when the airspace over the US closed.
