In an 11th hour bid President Michael D Higgins' nephew Donal has entered the race for Clare County Council.
The 35 year old machinist and science technology student from Ballycar – Newmarket on Fergus will contest the Killaloe electoral area for Labour.

He is the only Labour candidate in that location – his nomination comes after the party confirmed it would only run candidates in Ennis and Shannon last month.
Married with two young boys Donal says he hasn't run the decision past the Áras.
