Timothy Geithner says he clearly is not in a position to run the organisation.

Strauss Kahn is facing growing pressure to stand down after being charged with sexually assaulting a hotel maid in Manhattan.

It’s understood the board of the IMF is trying to contact him to get his views on his post with one source saying it would be ideal if he resigned.

The 62-year-old is currently being detained in New York’s notorious Rikers Island jail.

If convicted he faces a long prison sentence.
