Plans for a major private hospital development in Ennis has been given the thumbs down.
An Bord Pleanala has rejected the plans for the 100 bed facility on the Shanaway Road by developers Pat Bonner and John Stack as being a disorderly approach to development.
Last year members of Clare County Council voted by 28 to 3 in favour of rezoning land around the site of the proposed 40 million euro development.
However this decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanala by several parties – and a oral hearing was then heard earlier this year on the issue.
In its decision to reject the project the board believed the development was removed from the town centre of Ennis in a relatively undeveloped area on the rural fringes of Clare’s County Town.
There was also concerns over deficiencies in water water treatment facilities in the area.
