A government programme aimed at providing work experience and training for the long-term unemployed in Clare is set to be expanded.
The Community Employment scheme offers part-time and temporary placements in jobs based within local communities while providing experience and skills allowing them to find full time employment.
Among the changes to the scheme include a lowering of the qualifying age from 25 to 21 years of age, and an allowance for those over 55 to remain in the programme for an additional three years.

East Clare Fianna Fail Councillor Pat Hayes says the scheme has been a lifeline for rural areas.
