Progress On Efforts To Deal With Flooding On Ballycar Rail Line

A solution to flooding on the Limerick to Galway rail line at Ballycar appears to be one step closer.

After a meeting with the Oireachtas Committee on Rural and Community Development, Clare County Council, Iarnród Éireann and the OPW have signed a letter to commit to a joint programme of action to resolve the problem of flooding that has halted trains on a number of occasions in recent years.

Consultants have also been appointed to carry out a feasibility study on possible solutions.

There has been an impasse over Ballycar in recent years, as the different groups disputed who would be responsible for the expensive works to resolve the matter.

Clare County Council’s Director of Physical Development, Carmel Kirby says the steering group is committed to resolving the matter.
