Public Health Meeting tonight over future of Ennis General services

Clare’s 12 election candidates are being called on to attend a major public meeting tonight over the HSE’s plans to close the High dependency unit at Ennis General.

Staff at the county hospital have expressed grave concerns over the move which they say will take place on the first of March and will see the closure of acute medical facilities and some psychiatric services.

They have joined forces with hospital campaigners to highlight their concerns to the public at a meeting in the West County Hotel in Ennis

The HSE hasn’t confirmed the closures of the facilities in Ennis however staff representatives say they’ve been informed that the proposed cuts will take place on March 1st.

Ciaran O’Dea of the Ennis Hospital Development Committee says despite the HSE’s reassurances – any removal of services will lead to a downgrading of the county hospital.
