Public nursing homes which face closure could be thrown a lifeline

The Health Minister has told the Irish Times that the Government could help local communities to take control of such facilities.

James Reilly had previously warned that although care in many community nursing homes is excellent, facilities which are not financially viable will be forced to close next year.

Units with fewer than fifty beds are most at risk of being shut – but the Minister says he’s happy to look at ways to work with local people who wish to take over the running of nursing homes in their areas.
