Iranrod Eireann is investigating after a elderly motorist crashed through a railway crossing on the Ennis to Galway road this morning.
The woman was driving towards Ardrahan on the N 18 when her vehicle went through the barriers which had been lowered due to an oncoming train.

However the driver of the commuter service was alerted to the incident and managed to stop before he reached the crossing , preventing a disaster.
Work to repair the barrier is taking place but train services aren’t affected.
Speaking to Clare FM Iranrod Eireann Spokesperson Jane Creegan says thankfully nobody was injured in the incident
