The reduction of out-of-hours GP services in Kilrush at the weekend has been described as a "once-off unscheduled event".
In a statement to Clare FM, Shannondoc has confirmed that the doctor scheduled to work on Saturday and Sunday was unable to fulfil their shifts.
The organisation insists that it worked with local doctors to ensure that there was a full service available during the course of the day on a limited basis and patients who needed to see a doctor were given scheduled appointments.
Shannondoc also says that it has approached the HSE with a number of proposals for the delivery of the service across the Mid West in the future and that these are currently being reviewed.
