Referendum debate rages on

A Clare government Senator has said that a NO vote in the forthcoming EU Fiscal Treaty Referendum would be akin to playing ‘Russian Roulette’ with the Irish Economy.

Shannon Senator Tony Mulcahy has also hit out at what he’s describing as ‘misinformation’ from opponents to the Treaty during the campaign.

While the Referendum Commission states that ratification of the Treaty is the only way in which we can gain access to funds from the European Stability Mechanism, NO campaigners say funds could be accessed elsewhere.

However, Senator Mulcahy thinks that would amount to a leap into the unknown.

Meanwhile, Sinn Fein’s NO campaign is likely to top the agenda as party member gather for their Ard Fheis in Kerry later.

Their push for voters to reject the treaty in next week’s referendum has seen their popularity surge in recent opinion polls.

However the party will also be discussing a number of other issues but Finance spokesman, Pearse Doherty, says the economy will dominate proceedings.
